Production Privée Shan No5

We are stoked to announce that Production Privée are bringing a steel full suspension bike to the market in the name of the Production Privee Shan No5 Full Sus! And Jesus Christ doesn’t it look awesome…

We are huge fans of the guys at Production Privee and they keep raising the bar of steel frames not only in looks and how well they ride. Me and Dave have been riding and racing the most popular Shan 27 hardtail for the last couple of years now and its bloody impressive. Taking multiple wins in the hardtail category at our local downhill races and also grabbing a 5th overall. There’s no doubt they no how to make a fast hardtail.

They have entered a new realm with the Production Privée Shan N05 full sus. I think its going to be a big winner here in the UK.

Some simple facts about the Shan No5

-Cromoly frame.
-Intended for trail, all mountain and Enduro use.
-Simple design (Less is more).
-Fun to ride.
-Strong and reliable.

David, Damian and the rest of the Production Privee crew have gone with a frame that is compatible with 27″ and 27.5+ wheel sizes. The Production Privée Shan No5 has been designed around a metric rear shock with Fox Suspension. The magic number for the rear travel is 138mm and how they got to that magic number is not the conventional way most frame manufactures use.

Production Privée chose to lay these five points on the table:

- The optimal geometry we wanted (reach, angle, chain stay, wheel base, BB height)
- The optimal suspension ratio for the Fox Float shocks.
- How we want the suspension to work
- The frame architecture to provide the best ratio of stiffness/weight/strength.
- The rear tyre and chain ring clearance.

Seen here in the earlier stages testing with a Rockshox Monarch plus.

After weeks of design, drawing, engineering, talk and studying competitors, Production Privee found that 138mm was THE number.

David and Damian got the first prototype back in May 2016. Since that time they have test riding a lot, many a rear shock test sessions, they’ve competed in a couple of French Enduro races and validate the geometry and chassis with their Production Privée Supported riders.

Thanks to the Shan No5’s chromoly chassis and the magical features of the steel compared to Alloy or a Carbon frame, it provides an incredible amount of grip in the corner, provides great confidence in the rider with less fatigue during long runs and allows you to ride fast while feeling that you have total confidence in the bike.

Less is more! David and Damian designed a single pivot linkage with a shock extender. This design is very minimal with a small number of parts which are strong and reliable. The single link allows to extend the rear shock length to keep a conventional front triangle and bring a bit of progressiveness at the end of the shock stroke.

They have worked closely with Fox to gain a specific set up and tune on Fox Float Evol DPS rear shock which is made especially for the Production Privee Shan No5 which compliments the insane amount the grip that the frame already provides as well as comfort and pedalling efficiency. The Frame is intended for 140mm to 160mm fork up front making it super versatile.
